What should I wear to my session?

I think it goes without saying but it’s most important that you stay true to yourself and that you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. You don’t want to look back at your images wondering why you wore something that wasn’t “you”.

With that being said, don’t be afraid to dress up! A long dress and outfits with movement in them can make a nice impact on your images by creating some movement.

You don’t have to all be wearing the same colour, you could wear colours that and fabrics that compliment each other. Earthy, nude and neutral tones photograph well with the landscape here in Otago. For example: Beige, cream, white, brown, olive, burnt orange etc. Try to avoid bright colours, bold patterns and characters on shirts as they can make your images look busy. Big logos and text on t-shirts and abstract patterns can overpower your photo. We want to help keep your images looking timeless! Choosing fabrics with some texture in them such as chunky knits or linens can help bring another element to your photos as well.

Try not to ‘match’ each other but coordinate. The key to coordinating outfits is that you want to compliment each other and not attempt having the exact same clothes. By doing this, you create a cohesive look that has dimension and personality. Plan your outfits in advance and don’t leave it to the last minute. Lay each family member’s outfit together on a bed next to each other. This really helps to see if the outfits will look good together.
